It WAS a Dry Heat...

A few weeks ago all of our out of town friends and family were aghast at the high temps we were experiencing. They oohed and aahed over the 120 high we had and wondered how we could survive it.

Yes, it was hot (in Phoenix the word "hot" does not appear in the forecast until it's over 110 degrees), but when we say it's a dry heat it really is a dry heat. During the hottest week in June when temps climb to the 115+ range, the dew point is often in the negative digits. So although you're hot, you're not dripping with sweat.

Then the wind shifts and the Monsoon begins and everything changes. The dew points shoot up to the 50s and 60s, the temps drop to the low to mid 100s and it is miserable. You sweat. Every drink you drink sweats. The air feels thick and very hot. It is no longer a dry heat.

Even so, I live for Monsoon season. The clouds build up in the mountains to the North, East and South of us. They are beautiful. The chance of rain is in the forecast and I hope that some rain will fall before we go to bed. (When I first moved to Phoenix, monsoon storms typically hit at 5 - 7 pm. Now that there is so much more concrete, they rarely hit until after 10 pm.) If we're lucky enough to receive a rain shower, we run outside and stand in it. At least until the lightning gets too scary.

The rest of the country is used to being outside in the Summer months, but here we hibernate in the summer, unless you're lucky enough to have access to a swimming pool. The trade off is that we're outside for the Fall, Winter, and Spring months. And we rarely have to have a Plan B for outside activities because it rarely rains during those months.

We were on vacation in Colorado last week and someone asked us how long does the rain last in a Monsoon storm? About 10-20 minutes we replied. From the look on their face, I know they couldn't comprehend that kind of weather. But it's what we're used to and what I anticipate very summer.

Shake, Rattle, and Yawn

Story image for Arizona earthquakes from ABC15 Arizona

This past weekend I was talking to my son, JD about the increase in earthquakes in Oklahoma. There are several theories as to the cause of these quakes. I don't care about the cause. I only care about the fear factor. I am afraid of earthquakes.

Growing up in Kansas, we didn't have earthquakes. We only had tornadoes. And in all of my years of living there I never saw a tornado. I learned to grab my stuff and head to the basement when the sirens went off. (As I got older, I took my stuff to the basement and then ran outside to crane my neck to try to see the funnel cloud). In school we learned to all crouch under our desks or in the cloakroom when the sirens went off.

My mom watched a tornado destroy a neighborhood from across I-35 when we lived in Lenexa, KS. But that's the closest I've come to a twister.

I respect tornadoes, but I don't have a deep-seated fear of them.

Earthquakes are another story. You can't take cover from them. The sirens don't sound to warn you that one is imminent. They are very scary. They are why I never want to live in California (well, that, and the political environment and the tax rate and the lack of water).

This morning we awoke to the news that three earthquakes occurred overnight about 45 miles from our house. The first one was at approximately 9 pm - a 3.2. We were watching the Royals mount an epic comeback over the Mets at that time. We didn't feel a thing. Our pool didn't slosh onto the cool deck. Our dogs and cat didn't act odd.

The next two shakes happened at 11:30 and 11:50 pm. They were stronger - a 4.1 and a 4.0. I was asleep.

Now I know intellectually that earthquakes, like every other natural phenomenon can occur anywhere. But seriously, if we're going to start having them, I will start looking for a safer place to live. Where that is, I have no idea.

Although I have heard of plans to colonize Mars. Oh wait, I think that's just a movie...

H.O.T.

Hot. We can now officially use that term when referring to our weather. In the Phoenix area, "hot" does not enter our vocabulary until the temps are 110 or above. We have definitely reached "hot" this week. We had a high of 112 yesterday and are headed to 115 in the next few days. The good news is that at the end of the 10 day forecast, we drop back down to a warm 107. Ahhh...

Hurricane Season?!

A week ago today we awoke to rainfall courtesy of Hurricane Norbert. More rain than I can remember receiving in my 37 years of living in Phoenix. All of the freeways were closed down at one spot or another. The washes were all running, leaving surface streets flooded. School was cancelled in most of the Valley for the first time that anyone could recall. It was amazing. We normally receive 7 inches of rain annually and we got 4 inches out here in Surprise. Chandler, on the East side of town, received almost 6 inches of rain!

We don't have storm drains in Phoenix. The streets are built to be the drains. Needless to say there was no where for all of that water to go. Each neighborhood is required to have retention areas to collect the water from the streets.

The greenbelt behind our house - filled with 4+ feet of water

Another low spot back there.

The sidewalk that runs directly behind our house.
There is a dip and this is 5+ feet of water making it impassable.

Although the amount of rain we received was unusual, getting moisture from a spent tropical system is not that unheard of. It happens every few years or so.

Today we are bracing for the moisture from Hurricane Odile. She is much stronger than Norbert was and is turning in to Mexico much closer to Arizona. As of this morning, the weather forecasters are not even venturing a guess as to how much rain we may receive. They're just telling everyone to prepare.

Two hurricanes in one year! Awesome!

It's About That Time...

Today's Verse:
You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dray and parched land where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1 NIV

***************

Well, it's that time of the year. It occurs in October and again in March. Time to switch wardrobes. We have two seasons here in the Phoenix area: Hot and Not-Hot. We're entering into the Not-Hot season which means I have to get out the 3/4-length sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, jeans, and sweaters. Oh yeah, and a few pair of socks in case we have to wear closed-toe shoes.

I have a foolproof method for determining when it's time to switch clothes. When more than 80s appear in the 10-day forecast than 90s. That day is today. It's supposed to reach 96 F today, 94F tomorrow and then we take the plunge into the 80s. They're actually forecasting a high of 75F for Thursday, Brrrr!

In the Spring the processed is reversed. As soon as the 80s show up more than the 70s I make the switch back to Hot clothes.

I love this time of year here. From now until March or April, our weather is perfect. It's very dry. There's rarely rain. Outdoor activities abound! We can keep the house open. No A/C or heat. It's perfect sleeping weather. I'm already looking forward to Thanksgiving on the patio. And, maybe Christmas by the pool!

95.1

The local television stations were all abuzz yesterday with the news that we just completed OUR. HOTTEST. SUMMER. EVER! Which is kind of strange because it did not feel like the hottest summer to me. But they have the statistics to back them up and numbers don't lie.

The average temperature this summer was 95.1 F. This is not the average high temp of the summer. This is the average of the day and night temps put together. Now that I do believe. The nights here just keep getting warmer.

The good news is that yesterday was the date the latest 110 F. temp was recorded in 2010. We're pretty warm right now (106-109 F) the past few days, but not HOT like 110 F. You may wonder what's the difference between 109 F and 110 F; believe me, there IS a difference!

Fall officially starts on Sunday and our temps are supposed to drop into the double digits next week. The over night temps will be in the 70s. I am thrilled! Overnights in the 70s means we can open up the house and turn the AC off.

Hopefully the rest of September through Christmas will be in the 90s, 80s, and 70s. I'm not holding my breath though. The latest 100 F degree temp was recorded on October 23, 2003...

12.10.2012

Brrr... Winter is Here

We are going to have winter later this week. The temps have dropped clear down to the upper 60s (although it's supposed to be 72 on Wednesday). I have put away the window fans until it warms up in February. I know I will have to wear socks later this week. I put a sweater on this morning because the high today is only going to be 69 degrees!

The weather forecaster is calling for a high of 59 (YIKES) one day next weekend. We turned the heater on last night before we went to bed and I actually heard it come on at 6 am this morning. Guess that means I'll have to turn it on again tonight.

In a few days our average high temperature will drop to 66 degrees. It will stay there until about the third week of January. Then it will begin the slow climb back up to the triple digits in April or May. Of course that's just the average high temperature. We could be below it or above it. I'm hoping for above it. I don't mind a few cold days. Especially this time of year it adds to the Christmas-y atmosphere. But if it stays cold for a week or more I will probably get grouchy.

You've been warned.

Thursday Thoughts

So, I found out what the problem was with posting the other day. Blogger no longer supports my browser. Really?! So now in order to edit my blogs I have to use Google Chrome. It's a pain, but there's not much I can to about it. We need to get a new computer, so hopefully Blogger will support the browser on the new computer so I don't have to use two browsers.

The weather here is gorgeous. This is why we live here. We are flirting with the 80 degree mark every day. We are to have a cold front come through later this weekend and the temps will plummet to the low 70s. The heater is off and the windows and doors are flung wide open during the day.

The appraisal business is flourishing. Dan is giving his notice at Sam's Club this weekend. It is scary, but we know it's time. We can't be turning down appraisal orders due to the few hours he puts in at Sam's Club. On the other hand, he will have to go on COBRA insurance (I'm already on it) and we'll have to find our own insurance soon. It costs so much for me that it's just ridiculous. I'm trying to not worry, but instead to pray about it whenever the worry seeps in...

I haven't posted about this yet, but... we're having a wedding in our family in March. Katie and Gabe are getting married on March 24th. We are all excited. It has been fun for me to help her with some of the details of  her wedding. They are having a casual backyard wedding at a friends' house. She invited about 80 people, but I'm not sure how many are attending. Gabe's family is making all of the food. One of  Katie's work friends is making the cake. Actually, she's having cupcakes. JD and Janel will be here, so we're very excited that the whole family will be together!

We bought an elliptical machine. Yeah. Dan and I are in deep depression over just how out-of-shape we are. It is truly pitiful. But, we are bound and determined to get into better shape. Wish us luck.

Gotta run... Enjoy your day.

12.03.2011

Brrrr. It's Cold!

We are having winter here for a few days. Our temps have dropped to the high 50s for the high and the low 40s - upper 30s for the low. It is dang cold. We had to run an errand today around lunch time and both Dan and I were whining about the cold weather. Then I looked at him and at myself. We are so spoiled. He's in a long-sleeve shirt and I'm in a sweater and we're freezing! We don't even need coats, but it's too cold for us.

All of you people in the midwest and east have my permission to shake your heads over how spoiled we are. It's supposed to be cold all week, warming back into the 70s by next weekend. We turned the heater on two days ago in preparation for the cold weather and it hasn't kicked on yet. Not even at night. It's set at 68 degrees and every morning when I get up I look at the thermostat (because I'm shivering) and it's been 70 or 71 both mornings.

It's great weather for putting the Christmas lights on the house which Dan is doing right now. Then I guess we'll have something hot to drink and try to warm up...

11.04.2011

Brrr...

It's gonna be cold here. For four days or so. We're expecting highs in the mid to upper 60s. They are actually warning people on the news. Today it will become incredibly windy around noon continuing into the evening hours. The warning is for dust storms to sweep up from the deserts to the south. Next up is the possibility of rain overnight. It RARELY rains in November. So this is a big deal.

But the most alarming news is the temps. They are forecasting a high of 65 degrees tomorrow. Brrrr. That is cold for Phoenix. All of the stores have stacks of bagged firewood out front. Portable heater displays are set up at Target and Walmart.

I am prepared. I have socks in my sock drawer just in case. I've also given Dan the heads up that he may have to remove the window fans from the windows. My swiffer duster is ready in case we have to turn the ceiling fans off (they've been on for six months straight, this will be a great opportunity to clean the dust off of them). And just to show you that this is serious... I put a blanket on our bed.

So, don't worry. No need to call and check up on me. I am prepared...

The Last Day of October 2011

Wow. I don't know which blows my mind more. The last day of October. Or the year 2011.

Sunny and Thunder spent the night Saturday night. I am so out of practice juggling two kids that I only took two pictures! Here they are:

Sunny and I are going to the park today to play with Joanna's kids. I'm taking the camera. I hope I get some good photos. Tonight we are going to Katie's house for pizza and trick-or-treating. The Chargers are on MNF so Dan will be watching the game. I hope he or Gabe or Adam can pry themselves off the couch to answer the door while us girls are out in the neighborhood!

Tomorrow is November 1st. Since I'm not having Thanksgiving my thoughts are turned to Christmas. I have three of my trees up and decorated. Tomorrow I start writing my Christmas letter. I will take down the Halloween stuff and consolidate the Thanksgiving stuff so I can start on my Christmas decor. I have two of the eight stockings I need to make completed. I'm going to try to get two more done, but the other four will have to wait. The grandkids have priority so I'll explain to the adult kids that I am not SuperWoman after all.

We are going to have a typical Fall weather wise. It's going to drop from the 90s/100s straight to the 70s. We only get two days in the 80s this fall. The same thing normally happens in the Spring. We go from the 70s to the 90s with just a pause in the 80s. Last year we had 80s in the spring and fall and it was wonderful! I know it sounds weird to most of you, but 70s is pretty chilly around here. I will be putting a blanket on the bed this week. And I have socks in my sock drawer at the ready.

Enjoy your day. Happy Halloween!

9.23.2011

It's Fall!

Today is the first day of Fall. The high today is forecast to be 106 degrees. Tomorrow is forecast to be 105 degrees. Then it will supposedly drop into the high 90s. It's not typical for what the rest of the country experiences as Fall, but it's normal for us.

Yesterday Sunny wasn't feeling well so she couldn't go to school. She came to Grammy's instead. She had moments of running around, joyfully playing, followed by "hold me" time in Grammy's lap in the rocking chair.

7.22.2011

It's Cooler Here...

After watching the weather news the past few days I've come to the conclusion that it's cooler here than it is in the majority of the US and some of Canada. Who ever would have thought that Phoenix would be the place to be in July?!

At times like this, I really appreciate the reality of living in a "dry heat".

The monsoon has been hit and miss so far this year. We have several monsoon days when the humidity rises to about 26%, the dew point climbs to the 60s and the temps drop to the low 100s.

I'll admit, it can feel oppressive. But, the afternoon sky fills up with towering white clouds that slowly darken as they come off the Mogollon Rim (prounouned muggyon). It's more beautiful than I can describe. And, if we're lucky, we might get rain from those clouds.

This year we haven't been too lucky. I heard the weather person say the other day that we've received less than 2 inches so far this year. We are behind on rainfall. Typical.

But in between the monsoon days we have the dry days. Yes, the temps can climb into the 110-115 degree range. But, it's a dry heat. That means the heat index is lower than the actual temperature. It may be 107, but it feels like 101. I'll take that any day over having a temperature of 90 that feels like 105. That sounds miserable to me.

So. I am sympathizing with those of you sweltering in the Midwest and East. I can't imagine how horrible it is if you don't have air conditioning. Please, take care of yourselves. Check on your elderly neighbors. Drink water to stay hydrated.

And if you want a cool vacation... come to Phoenix.

6.21.2011

Summertime

Today is the start of summer. It's the longest day of the year. Starting tomorrow we begin the slow march toward fall. This is typically the hottest time of year in Phoenix. The record highs for the past few weeks have been in the 115+ range. However the actual temperatures here have been hovering in the low to mid 100s. While I've been enjoying the "cooler" weather, I know it has to heat up to the blast furnace range soon. I mean it really has to, or we won't have rain this summer.

In order for the Monsoon rains to be drawn up into our state from Mexico, the temps have to soar and the dew point has to rise. There are already rumblings among some people that this year may be a Nonsoon.

I hope not.

I need to see the white billowing clouds to the north build during the afternoon. I need to watch them turn dark as they start their trek down the rim toward the Valley of the Sun. I need to feel the rain that those clouds produce over my house two or three times during the course of the summer. I even need to see the lightning and hear the thunder.

During Monsoon we get the majority of our annual 7 inches of rain. We are perpetually behind in rainfall until the scorching desert heat rises to pull the moisture from Mexico up into our arid state. No heat, no rain, more drought.

So today, against all commonsense, I'm hoping for hot temps. I'm looking forward to 115, 118, or even higher. Because I know that a week or so after those hot days, I'll start to see the clouds peaking over the mountains to the north, bringing the hope of refreshing rain.

Wednesday Wanderings

SSMT #12: Wow, halfway through the year in attempting to memorize some of God's Word. I won't kid you. This has been a huge challenge to me. I have an easier time memorizing verses that I'm already familiar with. You know the ones I mean. You can kind of quote part of them, but aren't exactly sure where they're located in the Bible. Yeah, those verses. That's why I chose this verse for today. It's one of those verses I know, I just don't know where it is. I will now! For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. 1 Corinthians 14:33

Monsoon: Today is the beginning of the 2011 Monsoon. For those of you unfamiliar with Phoenix weather, it's the start of three or four months when we actually have weather. We get to hear the weather person say something besides sunny and warm. Our humidity level climbs out of the single digits (yes, it is possible to have 1% relative humidity) to as high as 30%. We sweat. Our drinks sweat. Within the next few weeks we will start to see clouds gathering over the Mogollon Rim to the northeast and grow into towering, dark storm clouds. There will be a slight chance of rain most days. If we're lucky, at least once during Monsoon it will rain at our house for as much as 30 minutes or so. At the first drop of rain, most of us will run out of our homes or offices, lift our faces to the clouds, and exclaim "it's raining!". Oh, what a glorious time it will be...

Still waiting on Thunder: Thunder is due on July 20th. I am putting together our family pool to guess his arrival date. Katie is doing great. She is ready for him to come. His room is all put together and looks fantastic. All of his little clothes are washed and hanging in the closet awaiting him. I just can't wait to hold this little guy!

Appraisals: April was a landmark month for appraisals. We received the highest amount of orders that month since the bottom fell out in Fall 2007. May was a good month, and June is starting out busy. We are so grateful to God for bringing us through these tough years. He has been our Provider, our Comfort, our Confidence. We are cautiously optimistic for the remainder of 2011.

Prayer: For those of you who know my friend Marti, please be in prayer for the family. There was a sudden death in Adam's family while they were at their family reunion in Colorado. Thank you.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Monday Meanderings

Joplin - My heart goes out to the people impacted by the tornado that struck Joplin, Mo. The pictures are just devastating. I'm praying for those who are trapped. For those who have lost loved ones. For those who have lost their homes and possessions. For the emergency workers. The injured. The local government.

Faith - An acquaintance of ours lost his battle with cancer this past Saturday. We have known this family for about 20 years. Sometimes we have been more involved with them personally than other times. His wife, Ellen, wrote the most beautiful Facebook post about his passing. Her faith shone through brightly. She was unapologetic in her unswerving belief that he is Heaven with our Lord, Jesus Christ. Today, I am praying for this family in their loss. But I am mostly thanking God for this wife who in the midst of her sorrow, finds the strength to share the love of Jesus Christ with others.

Breaking the rules - I have to confess that I have been breaking the rules lately. One of the rules I try to live by is: when you bring something new into the house, something old must leave the house. I abhor clutter. I probably to overboard in trying to assure that my home is not cluttered. I haven't been doing so well lately. My downfall is in the craft area. I have been bringing crafts into the house and then letting them sit around making me feel guilty that the craft projects are not completed. Or in some cases, not even started. I have got to get a handle on this. My goal in June is to get this bad habit kicked. We'll see...

Potty training - Seriously, it never occurred to me that I would be participating in potty training again. When Zach was potty trained, I thought it was all over for me. I celebrated. I was wrong. Sunny is potty training and since she spends time at my house, I have a participatory role in this momentous event. The worst thing about potty training this time around is that I have to follow Katie's rules, instead of doing it the way I normally would. Oh well. Sunny is doing quite well. Katie's goal is to have her trained by the time Thunder arrives. She just may do it.

Appraisals - Dan had a phenomenal month in April, 26 orders! yippee! May has been quite a bit slower, but we still received more orders than we did in Jan, Feb, or March. What a blessing!

June - June begins next week. Seriously? I just know the summer will fly by. Before June arrives though, I will face May 25th. May 25th is traditionally the day that I get serious about my holiday planning. I start my Twelve Days of Christmas gift planning on that day. If you would like to follow along with me as I prepare for another stress-free holiday season, check out my Christmas blog. I'd enjoy hearing how you prepare for the holidays, your traditions, what works - what doesn't.

Have a great Monday!

Crazy Weather

We are having a spectacular Spring, weather-wise. I can't recall a spring when our temps have stayed so (relatively) low. We've only had three days of official temps of 100 degrees or above. The temps have hovered in the 80s and 90s, dipping into the 70s a couple of weeks ago.

There are actually people complaining that it's not warm enough!

And that's where we're headed now. The 70s. We even have a (slight) chance of rain tomorrow.

We've got the a/c off. The windows are open. It is breezy each afternoon. The air is clear and cool each night. It's gorgeous.

I know the 115 degree and above will be here in about 30 days. But for today, I'm going to enjoy the crisp coolness of a 83 degree high.

3.30.2011

It's Wednesday

1. The Lincoln Lawyer - Dan and I were able to go to the movies yesterday and we saw "The Lincoln Lawyer". Wow. What a great movie. The buzz about it being Matthew McConaughey's best role to date is spot on. I like him anyway, but Dan doesn't and even he said McConaughey did a great job. We agreed that we'd actually like to see this one again! I highly recommend it. There is some rough language in it and one sexual encounter scene.

2. Decisions - Sometimes it's very easy for me to make decisions. Actually it's often very easy for me to make decisions. But other times it's extremely difficult for me. Agonizing actually. Not only for me, but for everyone around me while I'm deliberating on what decision to make. I've been going through one of those times for the past four months or so. You know, it's strange. Sometimes the decisions that should be easiest are the hardest ones for me. I get all caught up in what will other people think. Will I be disappointing someone. Am I doing the wrong thing. Am I being selfish. I'll go round and round and round on the same issues, unable to come to a conclusion. Well, I think I finally solved the latest dilemma yesterday. I feel pretty good about my decision, but I still have some reservations in the back of my mind. Is it ever hard for you to make decisions?

3. Weather - The weather here is just gorgeous right now. Our highs are in the 80s. The sky is clear blue with occasional high clouds drifting by. My windows are open. My heater is off. My a/c is off. This is why I moved here. We're going to have a few days in the 90s and then head right back down to the 80s. I know, I know, it will be hot in the coming months. But just remember this. I never have to shovel the heat...

3.14.2011

Miscellaneous Monday

1. I don't have Sunny today and Jessica is on Spring Break, so we're hanging out today. We are going to the Musical Instrument Museum over in Scottsdale (or maybe it's North Phoenix). She has two free tickets, plus she gets some sort of continuing education benefit from going. I've heard it's a great museum and I'm looking forward to it. When we're finished there, we're either going to visit Zach/Ashley/Baby K or we're going antiquing in Glendale. We plan to have a fun day!

2. Visited the kids in the hospital again last night. I can't tell you how good Ashley is doing. Oh my gosh! She's going home today and I know she'll feel even better when she can finally get some rest. Here's a few more photos...

3. Spring has finally sprung here in Phoenix. We're in the upper 80s headed for the 90s. The birds are chirping, everything is blooming, and for the first time in years I actually have allergy issues. I don't know what it is that's blooming that I'm allergic to, but it's in full force. I rarely have allergy problems, so I'm bummed that I'm having them now.

4. Daylight Savings Time began this weekend. We do not change here in Arizona, so we're the same time as California now. One hour off from Mountain Time Zone, two hours from Central Time Zone, and three hours from Eastern Time Zone. JD and Janel live in the east, so trying to call each other for the next eight months or so will be a challenge.

Enjoy your day...

Another Week Gone By

March begins next week. Tuesday to be exact. Am I the only person who thinks that January and February flew by in a blur? 2011 has started out as a very busy year for us personally. And it doesn’t look as though that pace is going to slow any time soon. I’m not complaining though. After several years of stress and strife, this busyness feels great.

I’m feeling particularly optimistic today after a visit to my doctor yesterday. Due to a perfect storm of events a couple of years ago, I developed high blood pressure and had to go on medication. I can’t stand pills. I will do anything to avoid taking them. That’s why I’m so strict about my diet with my diabetes. I don’t want to take medication to control my blood sugar. Yesterday when my blood pressure was measured it was 96/63. I said “what it is?” she said “96/63”. When we got back to the exam room I asked again “what was my BP?” “96/63”. When my doctor walked into the room I said “did you see what my BP is?!” She was as ecstatic as I was. Of course, then the worry started.

me: “is that too low?”
doctor: “no, but if it gets down to the lower 50s or 40s we need to change your medication”
me: “what should I look for?”
doctor: “feeling sluggish”
me: “I’m 54, I already feel sluggish, plus that’s a sign of low/high blood sugar, how will I know?”
doctor: “if you start to pass out when you stand up call me. Gee, I really can’t believe your BP is that good”
me: (laughing) “me either”.

Later as I was recounting my visit to the cardiologist in January by telling my doctor that the cardiologist asked if she was following my carotid artery since I’m diabetic…

me: “of course as soon as she asked that I got worried about are you following it, what if you’re not following it, why would she ask me that, does this mean you’re going to start following it if you weren’t already, what does following it mean…”
doctor: “I really can’t believe that your blood pressure was that good…”

Yeah, if you haven’t already figured it out, I’m a champion worrier… not that that’s a good thing!

There is a 100% chance of rain today in Phoenix. Normally when they say 100%, we don’t get a drop of rain. It is already quite cloudy, and I hope it does rain. We could use it. Plus, I just love a cloudy, rainy day when you have to turn the lights on in the house. It’s just so cozy.

I started buying a few things for Katie’s baby boy. They haven’t picked a name yet, so she refers to him as “little man”. I bought little man a plush basketball toy that chimes when you shake it. A cute newborn sleeper. Two outfits from Costco. She’s decided that since she’s having a boy, she’d like to have a baby shower, so we’re trying to figure out when to schedule that.

I have the best friends a girl could want. Each friend brings something special into our relationship. I can’t imagine not having these special women in my life. Just their enthusiasm alone is a blessing! They are multi-talented, encouraging, creative, supportive, fun, and the faith we share is at the center of each relationship. Some of them live close-by and some of them are phone/email relationships, but there is no difference in the level of friendship or in the love I have for them. Today, I am feeling so grateful for my friends.
